ENOR

Established on April 22, 1992, the Gold Mining Company (ENOR) is a Joint-Stock company specializing in the exploration, mining, and development of gold deposits in Algeria. A subsidiary of SONAREM industrial mining group, ENOR is today the pioneer and leading player in the national gold industry..

Initially endowed with a capital of 30 million Algerian dinars, it was increased to 54 million dinars in 1995, then to 888 million dinars in 1996, following the opening of its capital to several leading national companies, such as SONATRACH, the Bank of Algeria, and the Algerian Insurance Company. This strategic opening strengthened the company’s financial stability and supported the ambitious development of its projects.

The origin of ENOR dates back to the pioneering work of SONAREM in the 1970s, which led to the discovery of the Tirek and Amesmessa gold deposits, in 1971 and 1978 respectively. Located in the Hoggar region, about 400 kilometers southwest of Tamanrasset, these deposits are located in the territory of the municipality of Tin Zaouatine, within an exceptionally rich geological environment.

Access to these sites is via Tamanrasset, using the passable track leading to Bordj Badji Mokhtar, in the heart of the central Sahara. It is in this unique setting, both rugged and majestic, that ENOR began the development of the country’s first gold deposits.

The launch of the Tirek mine project in 1998 marked a historic milestone in Algeria’s mining history. In July 2001, ENOR commissioned its processing plant, achieving the first industrial gold production in Algeria. This pivotal event established ENOR as a symbol of renewal and national expertise in the gold sector.

Today, drawing on its technical experience, qualified human skills and strong local roots, ENOR continues its mission with the same ambition: to sustainably develop national gold resources, contribute to the diversification of the Algerian economy and to integrate its actions into a responsible approach that respects the environment and creates value for local communities.
