SOMIPHOS

Phosphate Mining Company

A subsidiary of the SONAREM Group, SOMIPHOS was created in January 2005 following the reorganization of FERPHOS Spa. A public Joint-Stock company, 100% owned by the SONAREM Group, SOMIPHOS is located in Tébessa, in eastern Algeria.

A major player in the national mining sector, SOMIPHOS holds a leading position in the operation and development of phosphate deposits in Algeria. Thanks to its expertise and industrial capabilities, it is among the country’s most important mining companies.

Products and Activities

The flexibility of the Algerian phosphate processing chain allows SOMIPHOS to produce two grades of phosphate, depending on the desired end use:
Algerian phosphate
68–66 % BPL
Algerian phosphate
65–63 % BPL

These two categories of phosphate, once transformed into phosphoric acid (54% P₂O₅), are used to manufacture a wide range of simple, binary or complex fertilizers, including:

SSP, TSP, DAP, MAP, NPK, as well as STPP ( Sodium Tripolyphosphate ).

Thanks to this integrated control of the valorization process, SOMIPHOS actively contributes to the development of the national phosphate sector and to the consolidation of Algeria’s position on the regional and international phosphate market.
