By delegation of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Prime Minister, Mr. Seifi Ghrib, on Monday, February 2, 2026, in the province of Oran, gave the signal for the unloading of the first shipment of iron ore from Gara Djebilet at the Tosyali Algeria complex. This event was part of the celebrations marking the historic achievement of inaugurating the railway line linking the Gara Djebilet mine to the city of Béchar over a distance of 950 km, a strategic project aimed at strengthening the mining sector and national industry.
During the visit, Mr. Reda Belhadj, CEO of the Sonarem Group, delivered a detailed and comprehensive presentation covering all stages of production, from the reception and unloading of iron ore to processing operations and the final production of products. The presentation emphasized workflow continuity, product quality, and operational efficiency. It highlighted the precise organization of the production chain, innovation in processes, and the modern technologies employed to ensure the highest industrial quality standards.
The Prime Minister also conducted a field tour of the preparation and pelletizing units to observe firsthand the use of Gara Djebilet iron ore in the production process, underscoring the importance of coordination between units to ensure uninterrupted production and the success of the project.
The ceremony was attended by a high-level ministerial delegation, members of parliament, local and civil authorities, and distinguished guests, reflecting the national significance of this project.
The Gara Djebilet project represents a strategic step toward diversifying the national economy beyond hydrocarbons, strengthening the iron and steel industry, and valorizing national mining resources. It also contributes to the development of transport infrastructure, stimulates industrial investment, creates new job opportunities, and positions the mining sector as a major driver of national economic growth and a supporter of future generations.
