The CEO of the Sonarem Group gives the go-ahead for the development works at the entrance of the zinc and lead mine

In implementation of the directives of the country’s highest authorities, the Governor of Béjaïa Province, Mr. Kamal Eddine Karbouch, together with Mr. Reda Belhadj, CEO of the Sonarem Group, and in the presence of the Chairman and CEO of the National Company for Non-Ferrous and Valuable Mining Products (ENOF), supervised the launch of development works at the entrance of the zinc and lead mine in the municipalities of Tala Hamza and Amizour.

The launch ceremony was attended by Mr. Anis Saoudi, member of the National People’s Assembly, the mayors of Tala Hamza and Amizour, the director of the Algerian–Australian joint venture BZL, and several relevant executive managers.

This launch comes after the completion of all administrative procedures and the removal of obstacles that had previously delayed the project. The project has now entered a new phase, which includes compensating the affected landowners, reflecting the authorities’ firm commitment to moving the project forward to implementation on the ground.

Mr. Reda Belhadj, CEO of the Sonarem Group, emphasized that this mining project is one of the most strategic initiatives in Algeria’s mining sector due to its major economic and developmental implications. It will contribute to the valorization of national mineral resources, strengthen economic sovereignty, create significant employment opportunities for the region’s youth, and support the economic dynamism of Béjaïa Province.

He also stressed that Sonarem Group will ensure close and continuous monitoring of all stages of the project, guaranteeing that works progress according to schedule while adhering to the highest technical standards applied in major mining projects.
